Apparently, so far Metrolink is the only customer for these. Have you seen them in action? Have you ridden behind one?
It would be neat if you could get some pictures and maybe video of them running.
Hopefully Caterpillar will bring EMD back to leadership in North American locomotive manufacturing.
Neat to see the 20 cylinder C175 prime mover. Kind of a callback to the 1970's EMD SD-45s. They were originally 20 cylinder EMD 645 series engines. As a lifetime Southern Pacific fan those SD-45s, SD-40s and all the other EMD line are close to my heart.
The 645 meant 645 cubic inches per cylinder, so 20 cylinders was 12,900 cubic inches or 211.4 liters, making 3,600 horsepower.
It is interesting that the C175 is just about half this displacement and makes 4,700 horsepower while meeting Tier 4 emissions standards.
